As the Minnesota Twins accelerated the push for the top spot in the American League’s Central Division, nearly 1,500 runners took to the streets of downtown Minneapolis on August 1 for more friendly competition in the Inaugural Twins Territory 4K, presented by Twin Cities In Motion. Temperatures soared later in the day, but partly cloudy skies and a light breeze meant near-perfect August weather at the 7 a.m.start time. Scores of runners wore Twins clothing and costumes, including one enthusiastic group that emulated Twins pitcher Carl Pavano’s mustache with decorated t-shirts and mustaches of its own.

The race route started near the Metrodome and took participants past Gold Medal Park, the Guthrie Theater, the Mill City Museum and the scenic banks of the Mississippi River and along the historic Warehouse District of downtown Minneapolis before runners crossed the finish line on Target Plaza, the doorstep of Target Field.

After refreshments at the finish line, race organizers invited participants to stay downtown and take in a special breakfast menu at Kieran’s Irish Pub and complimentary use of the showers at Life Time Fitness. A block of tickets were also offered to early registrants, so runners – many wearing Twins Territory 4K t-shirts – watched the Twins cap off the day with a 4-0 win over the Seattle Mariners. A portion of all entry fees went to the Minnesota Twins Community Fund.
