IMPORTANT
For your safety and for the safety of others, absolutely no unregistered participants (including friends, family, coaches and pacers), automobiles, bicycles, strollers, in-line skates, hand cycles, hand-cycle wheelchairs or pets are allowed on the course. There are no early starts - marathon closes at a 6 hour limit. No unregistered persons are allowed on the course.  In accordance with USATF rules, individuals being paced or assisted will be disqualified and asked to leave the course.  The 2009 Rules of Competition are available for download here.

City permits limit the race time to a 6 hour time limit. The course will be closed at a 13:44 minute per mile pace. No race services including medical, aid stations or traffic control are available beyond this pace. 

The finish line remains open until 2:15 p.m. (assuming an 8:00 a.m. start). Participants must cross the finish line by 2:15 p.m. in order to be considered "official finishers". After 2:15 p.m., the course and finish line are closed. . The finisher shirt and medal will not be awarded after 2:15 p.m. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Finishing the marathon by 2:15 p.m. generally means maintaining an average pace of 13:44 per mile. The race course is opened to traffic on a rolling schedule as participants make their way to the finish. In order to ensure safety, a Sweep Vehicle and Bus follows the race route to pick-up participants who are unable to maintain this pace on a consistent basis. Participants are required to board the Sweep Bus when so instructed by Race Officials. Course Marshals are instructed to record bib numbers of all participants who refuse to board the bus when instructed to do so.

Course Certification
/Sanction
The course is certified (MN08100JRG) and sanctioned by USA Track & Field. TCM, Inc. encourages, but does not require, USATF membership. USATF membership is required for masters runners to be eligible for age-group prize money.  USATF membership can be obtained at the USA Track & Field website.

  

Aid Stations 
Water, Mountain Blast flavored POWERADE Ion4 sports drink, toilets, and medical aid is available at approximately mile 2.5, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13.1, 15, 17, 19, 20.6, 22, 23, 24 and 25.

GU Energy Gel Zone  
Assorted flavors of Gu Energy Gel will be available right before the Mile 17 Aid Station. While supplies last. 

CLIF BAR Marathon Pace Team
Meet your marathon goal with the help from experienced CLIF BAR Pace Leaders -- one for the following finish times: 3:10, 3:20, 3:30, 3:40, 3:40 (Corral 2), 3:50, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30, 5:00 and 5:30. Each Pace Leader runs even splits (every mile is run in the same amount of time) and provides encouragement and advice along the way. By following your Pace Team Leader, you’ll cross the line within two minutes of your goal finishing time. New for 2010!  Clif will be providing a 3:40 pacer in Corral 2!!

Splits
/Mile Markers
Digital clocks will show elapsed time at miles 1, 2, 5k, 5, 10, 13.1, 15, 20 and 25. Mile markers will be posted at each mile on both sides of the road.

ChampionChip® Timing 
The marathon uses the ChampionChip® Timing System, with MTec (formerly ChampionChip MN). This will enable participants to get net and other split times. If you own a chip, please indicate chip number on the entry form. Chips must be picked up and tested at packet pick-up, as you will not be timed without a chip.

Medical Help Along the Course 
A medical field station is located just after each of the 14 water stops along the course.  First aid stations are located at each mile in between the water stops and National Bike Patrol members are located throughout the course.  Medical personnel will be wearing orange vests, communication personnel will be wearing yellow t-shirts.

Please keep in mind, medical personnel will only be on the course as long as the aid stations are open. Closing vehicles will travel at a 13:44 minute per mile pace dismantling aid stations and mile markers, so that traffic may resume.
